NEW TV Ad: Georgia Democrat Leader Bob Trammell’s Deafening Silence on Defunding Police Departments

Will Trammell stand by his liberal allies, or with Georgia law enforcement?

WASHINGTON – The State Government Leadership Foundation, the strategic policy partner of the Republican State Leadership Committee, this morning launched its first television advertisement encouraging Georgians to call state House Democratic Minority Leader Bob Trammell to tell him what he or she thinks about liberals’ plans to defund police departments. Trammell’s unbroken silence on the controversial policy position can be heard – loudly – across the state of Georgia. Will he stand with his national liberal allies? Or will he stand with the women and men who keep Georgians safe?

Watch: “Under Siege”

Once just an idea found only on the fringes of the far left, mainstream liberals in the last several days have begun rapidly embracing the defunding of America’s police departments. SGLF’s “Under Siege” is among the first television advertisements in the nation focused squarely on demanding an elected official break their silence on the issue.

Democratic Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti announced cuts to the city’s police budget. “Eric Garcetti, the Los Angeles mayor, addressed the broader protests in a speech late Wednesday night and said he was now working to make cuts of up to $150m to the police budget and reinvest funds in black communities, though specifics of his plans were unclear.” (Sam Levin, “Movement to defund police gains ‘unprecedented’ support across US,” The Guardian, 6/4/20)

New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez supported the movement to defund the police. “Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez threw her weight behind a growing movement to defund police departments that has become a rallying cry for some protesters in the wake of George Floyd’s death. The progressive firebrand put her stamp of approval on the far-left demand as a policy solution to combat police brutality and racial injustice during a congressional primary debate that aired Friday night on NY1. Ocasio-Cortez said she’s ‘actively engaged in advocacy’ for a ‘reduction of our NYPD budget and defunding a $6 billion NYPD budget that costs us books in the hands of our children and costs us very badly needed investment in NYCHA [New York City Housing Authority] and public housing.’” (Marisa Schultz, “AOC supports Defund the Police demands in wake of George Floyd’s death,” Fox News, 6/6/20)

Headline: “Protesters, officials call for police to be defunded” (Stephanie Pagones, “Protesters, officials call for police to be defunded,” Fox Business, 6/4/20)
